American Swedish Institute Midwinter Folk Music Festival

Back and better than ever this year – with more music groups, concerts, workshops, dancing and guest musicians! American Swedish Institute hosts a fantastic Folk Music Festival weekend Feb. 14-16 showcasing long-time favorite groups including the ASI Spelmanslag with founder/National Heritage Fellow, Paul Dahlin, with guests Anders and Maria Larsson from Malmö, #Sweden, the TC Nyckelharpalag, and nyckelharpa players Becky Weis and Renee Vaughan, the ASI Cloudberries and ASI Male Chorus Friends and more!

WEEKEND SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday, February 14, 7 p.m. – opening concert and dance featuring Maria and Anders Larsson, the Twin Cities Nyckelharpalag and the ASI Spelmanslag. $15 ASI members / $20 non-members / free for youth under 18.

Workshops on Saturday, February 15 (varying prices)
• 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Youth Swedish Fiddle: From South to North, Swedish Tunes for Fiddle with Maria Larsson.
• 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Adult Swedish Fiddle: How Our Music Goes with Paul Dahlin.
• 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Swedish Song: Singing for Dancing with Anders Larsson.
• 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Swedish Music: Music from Northern Sweden with Kip Peltomiemi and Renee Vaughan
• 2-3 p.m. – Dance workshop with Elise Peters & Char Bostrom
• 2-5 p.m. – Swedish Tunes for the Fiddle with Maria and Anders Larsson. $30 adults / free for youth.
• 2-5 p.m. – Modern tunes for Nyckelharpa By Players From the Last Sixty Years with Becky Weis. $30 / free for youth under 18.

Concerts on Saturday, February 15 (FREE)
• 12-12:30 p.m. – Ole Olssons Oldtime Orkestra
• 1-1:30 p.m. – Youth Fiddlers concert
• 2-2:30 p.m. – Renee Vaughan and Adam Kiesling: Gammeldans tunes on nyckelharpa and guitar
• 3-3:30 p.m. – Humorus songs with Art Bjorngjeld, Paul Wilson and Mary Abendroth
• 3:30-4:30 p.m. – Allsång (Swedish sing along) with Janet Carlson, ASI Male Chorus and the ASI Cloudberries
• 4-4:30 p.m. – Paul Dahlin & friends including Marikay on bass and other fiddlers

Saturday, February 15, 7 p.m. – Concert and dance featuring the ASI Male Chorus, the ASI Cloudberries and Ole Olssons Oldtime Orkestra. Followed by Elise Peters teaching Swedish mixer dances. $15 ASI members / $20 non-members / free for youth under 18.

Sunday, February 16
• 1 p.m. – Rehearsals: workshop groups run through tunes to be included in the afternoon performance.
• 2 p.m. – Closing concert featuring the ASI Spelmanslag and the ASI Lilla lag. Workshop groups will play what they have learned. $15 ASI members / $20 non-members / free for youth under 18.
