Beginner Nordic Dance and Music

New to Nordic Music and Dance? Thinking about going to the Nisswa-Stämman folk music and dance festival?
Come learn the tunes and dances that will be played and danced at the festival!
Musicians and dancers will benefit from learning the
Basics of Nordic Movement with Kari Tauring & Carol Sersland
6:00pm – 6:30pm
Absolute Beginners. Learn about svikt, tyngde, and kraft,
the movement of the body in skiing, walking, and dancing.
Solo movement with breath and body making the music, a
great way to practice turning. Then pair up for elemental
Nordic dances like schottische, polka, and waltz.
6:30pm – 7:00pm
Each week will explore a different culture’s flavor on the
basic dances: Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish
with tradition bearers from the Twin Cities music and
dance communities.

Dancers, practice what we have learned with a variety of
partners in a relaxed social setting with guest musicians!
