Cinema Revolution: Cuba

A series of groundbreaking Cuban films from the 1960s, including two new 4K DCP restorations, celebrates Cuba’s revolutionary cinema. Presented in conjunction with Adiós Utopia: Dreams and Deceptions in Cuban Art Since 1950, on view through March 18.

An alienated intellectual remains in Havana as those around him flee during the early days of Castro’s Cuba.

The last film and celebrated masterpiece by Afro-Cuban filmmaker Sara Gómez features a Havana couple whose relationship mirrors Cuba’s transforming society.

Death of a Bureaucrat (La muerte de un burócrata) (1966), Tomás Gutiérrez Alea
A satirical black comedy about a young man in constant struggle with endless, bureaucratic red tape after his uncle’s death.

Films are presented in the Walker Cinema. All films in Spanish with English subtitles. Unless otherwise noted, tickets are $10 ($8 Walker members, students, and seniors). All tickets include gallery admission.
