Fode & Sana Bangoura present Guinea – The Music We Are at The Cedar

January 19, 2018 @ 8:00 pm

Brothers Fode and Sana Bangoura partner up to take the audience on a journey from the distant past to present via the music and dance of their native country, Guinea, West Africa. The trip begins with the most traditional music-making –singing to the beat made by ancient, hand-held percussive instruments–and later moves into generations-old music and dance popularized by world-renowned Les Ballet Africains. With the help of local jazz musicians, Miguel Hurtado, Jax Ravel, Omar Abdul Karim, Nelson Devereaux, and Javier Santiago, Fode and Sana will bring the audience back to present with their modern arrangements and choreography influenced by their strong foundation in traditional Guinean drum and dance.

Alhassane Bangoura, in partnership with Fode Bangoura, is a fiscal year 2017 recipient of a Cultural Community Partnerships grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
