Juneteenth Celebration at Webber Park Library

June 24, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Juneteenth is said to be the oldest African American celebration of emancipation from slavery. The news of emancipation moved slowly and didn’t arrive in Texas until June 19, 1865, about two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth has been remembered and celebrated as a holiday since the first public Juneteenth events in 1866.

Celebrate this important moment in African-American history in a family-friendly festival. Engage in crafts, cultural demonstrations, storytelling, singing, drumming, theater and more! ASL interpreters will be present. Thanks to our celebration partners:

•Voice of Culture Drum+Dance
•Million Artist Movement
•Black Storytellers Alliance
•Never Ending Story Circle
•Journey Productions
•Passed Presents
•Free Black Dirt
•Ancestry Books

This project is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
