Los Angeles Chicana artist Alma Lopez at El Colegio High School.

Join us for a fundraiser dinner followed by a public lecture at El Colegio High School by Los Angeles Chicana artist Alma Lopez, co-sponsored by the University of Minnesota’s American Studies & Chicano Studies departments.
A renown visual artist, Alma Lopez has been exhibited in over one hundred solo and group exhibitions internationally. In 2011, the University of Texas Press published her book Our Lady of Controversy: Alma López’s “Irreverent Apparition,” co-edited with Alicia Gaspar de Alba. Currently, Lopez is an Assistant Professor in Residence in the Cesar E. Chavez Department of Chicana/o Studies and LGBTQ Studies Program at UCLA. She teaches courses on art censorship, queer art, Chicanx/Latinx art, public art, and digital art.
