Mexica New Year Festival: Chikome Akatl (7 Reed)

This family-friendly, cultural festival celebrates and honors the diverse beautiful cultures of indigenous peoples of the Twin Cities. Hosted by Indigenous Roots in partnership with local dance and drum circles, artists, community organizations and businesses.

Este festival cultural será un evento familiar enfocado en la diversidad indigena de las ciudades gemelas.
Organizado por Raíces Indígenas en colaboración con grupos de danzas culturales, artistas, organizaciones y negocios de la comunidad local.

Objectives of the Mexica New Year Festival:

Educate the greater community about the significance and history of Mexica New Year.

Engage with other indigenous communities/nations in the twin cities and in the region to celebrate and share our cultures with one another.

Foster solidarity and harmony amongst North and South indigenous peoples to work together in shared goals and aspirations.

Recognize and advance an awareness of indigenous culture in the Latino community
