September 8, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us for world-renowned Nirmala Rajasekar, a Carnatic veena virtuoso and educator of South Indian music. She’s performed in venues throughout the world and is a recipient of many awards including a Bush artistic fellowship, a McKnight fellowship, Rotary Vocational Excellence award and Best Senior Veena Artiste.
Nirmala is known for her talents in exploring South Indian classical (Carnatic) to create collaborative projects with other music traditions including western classical and jazz. The press has often described her as a “Carnatic Ambassador,” as she has introduced Carnatic music to many other art forms of the world.
Tickets are on sale now: $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Doors open early at 2 p.m. so you can take a self-guided tour of the Lakewood Memorial Chapel before the show (free tour brochures will be available).
The Lakewood Chapel, one of our city’s most beloved architectural treasures, is an intimate setting that seats about 160 people. Because of its incredible beauty and historical significance, it is a popular place for weddings, end-of-life services, music concerts, tours and other celebrations of beauty, art and remembrance.
