Summer Skål! – Wednesdays at 6
June 28, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm
The Summer Skål returns!
Every Wednesday at 6 p.m. throughout the summer.
Join us at FIKA at the American Swedish Institute and American Swedish Institute to learn how “How to Skål with Style and Grace.”
The Skål is a Scandinavian toast, practiced in its most formal version by the Swedes, as evidenced by Max von Sydow in the “The Ultimate Skåler” series from the Time-Life book.
– The proposer of the toast engages the eye of the person being toasted, and “skoal/skål” is said.
– A slight bow of the head, and a twinkle of the eye—and the aquavit is drained in one gulp (if the drink is wine, a sip is taken). (Water or soda works too)
– Just before the glass is put back on the table, the eyes meet again and there is another friendly nod.
