We Knew Who We Were: Jews on Northside Film Screening

November 17, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

***Update there will be a Trans Day of Remembrance Havdalah at 6pm – y’all are welcome to attend. https://www.facebook.com/events/802680053401898/

The movie will be shown at 6:30, discussion afterwords.

What does it mean to be Jewish in 2018? What can we learn from the previous Jewish community in North Minneapolis about who we are, where we are, what has changed, and our relationships with other communities?

If this documentary is right that – ‘we knew who we were’ but no longer do(?) – what would it mean to reconstitute a vibrant and liberatory Jewish identity given the rise of white supremacist violence and deeply ugly right wing politics globally, including among Jews?

Bring a snack to share, children and loved ones of all backgrounds welcome, though this conversation will focus particularly on Jews and Jewish identity.

Conversation to be had afterwords, but any invites to those who grew up on the Jewish North Side particularly welcome!

This is a free event but donations welcome to cover the cost of the space. Many thanks to the Capri Theater for letting us use this space for our event.
