Favorite Cheap Lunches Part 4: Tin Fish on Lake Calhoun

by Jeremy Iggers | May 27, 2009

One good thing about a day like today – cool, cloudy – is that you can probably have lunch or dinner at Tin Fish on Lake Calhoun without waiting in a line that snakes around the building. We stopped by yesterday around 1 p.m., when the skies were overcast, and there was no line at all.

Iggers Digest is the blog of Jeremy Iggers, the TC Media Alliance’s executive director. Jeremy is also the creator of TCFoodies, a local food networking site.

We ordered a Mini Tin (two pieces of breaded fried cod on a hot dog bun, still a bargain at $2.75), a grilled shrimp taco ($4.95), and a small side order of waffle fries ($2.95), and enjoyed the million dollar view of the lake. Shorter lines mean shorter waits, too – everything is cooked to order, but our order was ready in less than 10 minutes. Prices have crept up a bit, but are still not bad: the Tin Fish Combo of four pieces of cod, three shrimp, two scallops, and six pieces of calamari has gone up a dollar to $15.95.
Tin Fish, 3000 Calhoun Parkway East – Minneapolis, 612-823-5840. Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Labor Day; shorter hours through October.
